It focuses on the dissemination of high-quality methods and offerings of digital learning and on the use of innovative technologies. These technologies will also be leveraged for a data-driven and evidence-based expansion of these offerings.

Your tasks

  • Act as primary point of contact for the learning management platform and support tasks such as dealing with support tickets concerning accounts, roles, courses, categories, tenants etc.
  • Systematically evaluate requests, determine the support level and maintain ongoing documentation for internal and external access
  • Serve as liaison between partners, team members and technical resources as required; if needed, escalate issues through the proper channels to achieve issue resolution
  • Train other team members on key system functionality and administrative tasks
  • Pro-actively contribute to process optimization efforts within the team, in particular on topics like product requirements, documentation and of course support

Your profile

  • Completed university-degree with a focus on digital development, digital education or related disciplines with a strong affinity to working with IT systems and in support roles with a convincing track record in this field
  • First experience with Moodle as an administrator, or several years using other learning management systems
  • Documented experience in customer- or partner-facing roles, preferably in support positions, is a strong advantage
  • Very good organisational skills and structured thinking, and efficient and self-organised to quickly dive into new topics
  • Experiences in digital learning and understand the concept of “learner journeys” and the potential that new technologies can have on the digitalization of learning environments
  • First experience in international cooperation/international relations, education or social sciences are of advantage, as is experience in our GIZ partner countries
  • Experiences working actively and cooperatively in a team in agile processes like Kanban, interpersonal and intercultural competence and high communication
  • Fluent English and German skills

Job description

Join our team in the Water, Sanitation and Waste Management Department in Hamburg/Germany, with frequent travel to developing countries, as an open-minded and versatile (Junior) Consultant (m/f/d) and contribute to our mission to provide quality services worldwide.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Leading the acquisition process of new projects, including elaboration and coordination of technical and financial proposals;
  • Establishing and maintaining regular professional contacts and networking with clients, partners and sector experts;
  • Fully responsible management of projects and studies (backstopping), on-site and Hamburg-based;
  • Conducting technical short-term consultancy missions, including participation in feasibility and project preparatory studies;
  • Writing of reports, concepts and presentations as well as contributing to knowledge and quality management, including GFA publications;
  • Representation of GFA in conferences and seminars;
  • Supporting on-the-job-training of our Junior Professionals

 

Qualifications and requirements

  • University degree (Master) in a relevant area (e.g. environmental engineering, waste management, water resources management, economics);
  • At least 2-3 years (preferably 4-5 years) of relevant experience in the solid waste management sector and / or water supply and sanitation sector, water sector reform, capacity development, institutional strengthening, utility management etc.
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken French and English;
  • Familiarity with the German (GIZ, KfW) and European development sector (such as e.g. EuropeAid, EIB, EBRD) and a well-founded understanding of the strategies and programs of the relevant donor agencies would be an asset;
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills;
  • Advanced proficiency in standard MS Office applications;
  • Willingness to frequently travel abroad;
  • Ability to manage complex situations with a sense of pragmatism.

7 Retailer Lessons on How to Support the Shift Toward More Sustainable Food Consumption

With increasing awareness and understanding regarding the consumer intention-action gap, how can retailers contribute to bridging it and support the shift toward more sustainable food consumption? The VALUMICS report ‘Behaviour change interventions for more sustainable food consumption’ assembles learnings from three practical behavioural interventions at the retail level.

Sustainable food consumption can be tricky. Many people state their intention to consume more sustainably and yet don’t manage to materialise it into actual consumption behaviour. This VALUMICS report summarises the factors that could contribute to closing the intention-action gap by laying out drivers and motivations, but also pointing out barriers and obstacles.

Bridging the intention-action gap is a complex process that requires the involvement of different actors in the food system. Retailers are of particular importance considering that the retail sector is where consumers make their day-to-day food consumption choices. Accordingly, inspired by the opportunity of creating positive impact and exploring pathways for change, REWE International conducted three behavioural intervention case studies in their food retail stores. The case studies focused on three aspects:

  • the retailer’s fruit and vegetable certification and supplier social standards
  • the introduction of recyclable glass milk bottles
  • greening store designs

The VALUMICS report Behaviour change interventions for more sustainable food consumption reflects on these behavioural interventions and summarises the key results. For example, a major lesson from the (re)introduction of recyclable glass milk bottles is the significance of cooperation with other stakeholders. This makes it possible to disrupt the ‘business as usual’ and take steps toward a consumer-focused ‘trial and error’ approach for reviving or initiating sustainable alternatives. This case study was carried out in collaboration with Berglandmilch eGen and Greenpeace.

This report is the third in a series of VALUMICS publications focusing on food consumption analysis. The first report brings together information about the determinants that influence or drive European food consumption patterns, while the second report looks into behavioural evidence that supports the shift towards more sustainable and healthy dietary patterns. The fourth report will provide recommendations to multi-stakeholder initiatives to make sustainable food consumption a reality.

1. Tschads Ex-Diktator Habré gestorben

Der für Verbrechen an der Menschlichkeit verurteilte tschadische Ex-Diktator Hissène Habré ist tot. Darüber berichten die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, die Tageszeitung, Zeit Online, RP Online, die Berliner Zeitung und Deutschlandfunk. Habré sei am Dienstagmorgen in einem Krankenhaus in Dakar im Alter von 79 Jahren gestorben. Dort sei er am Tag zuvor aufgrund einer Covid-19-Erkrankung eingeliefert worden. Habré war von 1982 bis 1990 Präsident des Tschad. Nach seinem Sturz sei er aus dem zentralafrikanischen Staat in den Senegal geflohen. Mitte 2016 sei er wegen Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit, Kriegsverbrechen, Folter, Mord und Zwangsprostitution zu lebenslanger Haft verurteilt worden. Auch Entschädigungszahlungen in Höhe von umgerechnet 80 Millionen Euro seien angeordnet worden. Seitdem sei Habré im Gefängnis Cap Manual in Dakar inhaftiert gewesen.

 

2. Impfstoffe müssen vor dem Verfall gerettet werden

Weltweit verfallen Millionen Corona-Impfdosen und müssen entsorgt werden, während in vielen Ländern Vakzinen fehlen. Darüber berichten Nicola Abé, Heiner Hoffmann, Jan Petter und Sonja Peteranderl auf Spiegel.de. Eine zentrale Datenbank, die den globalen Impfstoff-Verlust dokumentiert, gebe es nicht, doch Daten aus einzelnen Ländern und Schätzungen seien alarmierend. Der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) zufolge könnten weltweit bis Ende August eine Million AstraZeneca-Dosen unbrauchbar werden, weil deren Haltbarkeit abläuft. Expert*innen warnen davor, dass in den USA bald Impfdosen verfallen, mit denen rund 13 Millionen Menschen gegen Corona geimpft werden könnten. Auch in Deutschland bleibe derzeit jede zehnte Impfdosis in den Arztpraxen liegen, insgesamt lagern dort rund 3,2 Millionen Dosen. In ärmeren Ländern seien bisher nur 1,4 Prozent der Menschen mindestens einmal geimpft worden, in Nigeria seien nur 0,7 Prozent der Bevölkerung vollständig geimpft.

 

3. Kritik an Verteilung der Sonderziehungsrechte

Die Badische Zeitung und das Schwäbisches Tagblatt berichten über die Verteilung von 650 Milliarden Dollar seitens des Internationalen Währungsfonds (IWF) an seine 189 Mitgliedsstaaten. Faktisch fließen die Mittel vom IWF in Form von sogenannten Sonderziehungsrechten (SZR), die weltweit gegen anerkannte Reservewährungen getauscht werden können. Das Geld soll den Mitgliedsstaaten die Finanzierung von Maßnahmen gegen die Folgen der Corona-Pandemie und der Wirtschaftskrise ermöglichen. Verteilt werde das Geld entsprechend den Kapitalanteilen der Länder am IWF. Weil dort die reichen Länder die Mehrheit haben, erhalten sie fast 60 Prozent der Mittel. Nichtregierungsorganisationen fordern die Notenbank auf, das Geld an ärmere Länder weiterzureichen. Dazu habe auch der IWF aufgerufen. Die Bundesbank lehne das aus juristischen Gründen ab. Als Teil des europäischen Zentralbanksystems sei es ihr nicht erlaubt, Geld zu verschenken. Laut Karoline Lerche, Interims-Direktorin der Entwicklungsorganisation ONE, spüle die Neuzuteilung vor allem reichen Ländern viel Geld in die Kasse. Deutschland alleine erhalte “mehr Mittel vom IWF als der gesamte afrikanische Kontinent”. Dabei benötigen gerade afrikanische Länder eine besonders große Liquiditätsspritze.

A call for international solidarity to support the Afghan people’s quest for justice, peace and development

On August 15, 2021, the world witnessed devastating developments in the ongoing civil war in Afghanistan. Taliban forces have recaptured Afghanistan’s seat of power after the withdrawal of the United States forces, which marks the ‘end’ of its decades-long occupation. As a result, thousands of Afghans rushed to flee the country, while others have sought refuge in neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Iran. The untold costs will be laid bare in the decades to come.

History of conflict and instability

The US and its Western allies invaded the country after the 9/11 attacks on the pretext of a war on terror and aggression. Following the war, the US installed a transition government and introduced its notions of ‘democracy’ to an otherwise deeply conservative society. Since then, millions in official development assistance (ODA) have poured into the country to support its reconstruction and nation-building. However, much of this ODA was used for militarism by the transition government and its allies, instead of addressing poverty and exclusion aggravated by the ongoing war. The US alone reportedly spent US$2 trillion in Afghanistan, mainly for its military campaign in the region.

Desire for genuine development

 

Today, Afghanistan ranks 169th out of 189 countries and territories on the UN Human Development Index, and is one of the world’s top producers of opium. Almost half of the Afghan population live below the poverty line (Asian Development Bank, 2020), while foreign contractors ferried oil from the country, officials pocketed government funds, and local warlords presided over the growing opium trade. At this juncture, the increasing costs of militarism and war have forced the US to enter into a peace agreement with the Taliban. However, the haphazard implementation put millions of Afghans – especially the women and girls – at risk.

Afghanistan’s experience shows the continuing folly of promoting development that is not anchored on just peace and people’s rights and aspirations. The absence of due consideration to principles of effective development cooperation: democratic ownership built on the people’s will and interests, transparency, accountability, and shared responsibility, inclusive partnership for development, and a focus on results, in development efforts during occupation has brought the situation where it is today.

Call for international solidarity centred on human rights-based approach (HRBA)

The people of Afghanistan need international solidarity. The international community, including all development actors, must mobilise resources and enable mechanisms in support of the Afghan people suffering from this humanitarian crisis.

CPDE welcomes the United Nations Secretary-General’s call for all States not to abandon the Afghan people and to use all means within the bounds of international human rights norms and standards to stop the atrocities. We call on the UN and all States to guarantee the rights of all Afghan citizens.

We demand accountability from the US and urge other States, particularly those who took part in this occupation, to take reparative measures as a matter of moral responsibility. This should include the opening of their borders to the vulnerable people of Afghanistan seeking sanctuary. Concretely, we recommend swift changes on immigration programmes to accommodate all refugees left vulnerable by this development.

We also call on States to provide humanitarian assistance guided by the principles of solidarity, non-conditionality, and international protection aligned with human rights frameworks. Support should be directed towards the people’s needs – not geopolitical interests – and respond to the nexus of humanitarian aid, peace, and development. In the same vein, we call for the ramping up of funding to Afghan civil society organisations focusing on peace and humanitarian initiatives, and for a cessation of military aid that fuels war in conflict-affected areas.

The Taliban-led government should abide by their commitment to upholding Afghanistan’s international human rights treaty obligations and allow the United Nations and independent international observers into the country to monitor and promote the protection of human rights.

Finally, we express solidarity with the people of Afghanistan aspiring for just peace and democracy, gender equality, and self-determination. We are one with the members of Afghan civil society in the struggle for recognition as independent development actors, and respect for human rights. We join them in demanding civic space to perform their societal roles and in calling for the protection of civilians, especially women and girls, ethnic minorities, and journalists, from violence and other harm.

Promoting peace and security in Afghanistan is the responsibility of all stakeholders. With the rest of the world, we stand for social justice and genuine reconciliation in Afghanistan. We advocate for governing institutions that will heal the wounds of their war-torn communities. May the roots of the conflict be addressed, and may they find lasting peace and progress. #

Oikocredit International ist eine internationale Entwicklungsgenossenschaft, die rund 550 Partnerorganisationen im globalen Süden Finanzmittel und zusätzliche Schulungsmaßnahmen in Form von Darlehen oder Kapitalbeteiligungen zur Verfügung stellt, die durch Investitionen von Einzelpersonen und Organisationen finanziert werden. Etwa die Hälfte des Kapitals von Oikocredit International kommt aus Deutschland, wo etwa 28.100 der insgesamt 58.400 Anleger*innen beheimatet sind.

Der Oikocredit Westdeutsche Förderkreis e.V. ist einer von sieben Förderkreisen in Deutschland und vertritt die über 7.000 Anleger*innen in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz und im Saarland. Er beschäftigt in seiner Geschäftsstelle in Bonn sieben Mitarbeitende und wird von einem sechsköpfigen Vorstand geleitet. Hauptaufgabe neben der Mitgliederadministration ist die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und entwicklungspolitischen Bildungsarbeit. Geprägt ist diese Arbeit durch ein hohes Maß an Kooperation innerhalb der rechtlich selbständigen Vereine zum einen und die Einbindung von ehrenamtlich für den Verein tätigen Anleger*innen zum anderen.

Allgemeine Aufgabenbeschreibung

Als Junior-Referent*in für die Bereiche Marketing und Bildungsarbeit unterstützen Sie die Arbeit der beiden Referent*innen. Da wir in den Strukturen eines kleinen Teams arbeiten, haben Sie viel Raum, eigene Ideen zu entwickeln und umzusetzen und können gleichzeitig mit der Unterstützung von unserem Team rechnen.

Einzelbereiche der Stellenausschreibung

Marketing und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit

Die Marketing- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit im Oikocredit Westdeutscher Förderkreis e.V. setzt verschiedene Schwerpunkte on- und offline. In Zusammenarbeit mit den anderen Förderkreisen werden    

  • Kund*innenmagazine, Flyer, Infobroschüren, etc. erstellt
  • über eine Website und verschiedene Social Media – Kanäle (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) kommuniziert
  • Veranstaltungen geplant und durchgeführt

Bildungsarbeit

Der Oikocredit Westdeutscher Förderkreis e.V. ermutigt seine Mitglieder, sich ehrenamtlich für die Arbeit des Vereins zu engagieren. In acht Städten existieren Ehrenamtsgruppen, die sich bei Veranstaltungen beteiligen oder anderweitig die Arbeit des Vereins unterstützen. Die Geschäftsstelle fördert das Ehrenamtliche Engagement durch Bildungsangebote und aktive Begleitung. In Vortragsveranstaltungen, die der Verein selbständig oder gemeinsam mit anderen Partnerorganisationen anbietet, informiert dieser über die Ziele und Wirkungsprinzipien von Oikocredits Engagement.   

Ausbildung und Kompetenzen
  • Bachelor-Abschluss in einem für die Arbeit von Oikocredit relevanten Fach
  • erste Erfahrungen in der Öffentlichkeits- und/oder Bildungsarbeit in Form von längeren Praktika oder Berufserfahrung
  • Gute Kommunikationsfähigkeiten auch in einem komplexen Umfeld, sicherer Umgang mit der englischen Sprache in Wort und Schrift
  • Grundverständnis von Finanzmärkten und Finanzkommunikation
  • Sehr gute Kenntnis der einschlägigen IT-Programme
Weitere Angaben

Die Stelle ist in Vollzeit ausgeschrieben. Die Vergütung erfolgt in Anlehnung an den Tarifvertrag BAT-KF, die Eingruppierung erfolgt nach dem persönlichen Profil des/der Bewerber*in.

Arbeitsbeginn sollte so bald wie möglich erfolgen, die Stelle ist bis zum 31.12.2022 befristet. Der Sitz des Vereins ist Bonn, mobiles Arbeiten ist teilweise möglich, außerdem sind Reisen innerhalb Deutschlands in einem gewissen Umfang (10%) notwendig.

Risiken und Neben­wirkungen deutscher und europäischer Rückkehrpolitik

Die Rückkehr ausreisepflichtiger Migrantinnen und Migranten hat einen hohen Stellenwert auf der politischen Agenda Deutschlands und der EU. Neben dem Ziel, die Rückkehrzahlen zu steigern, haben verstärkte rückkehrpolitische Bemühungen auch eine symbolische Funktion: Sie dienen dazu, die Durchsetzungskraft des Rechtsstaats zu demonstrieren, und gelten als wichtiges Mittel, das weitere Erstarken rechtsextremer Parteien zu verhindern. In der Praxis erweist es sich allerdings als schwierig, die Ausreisepflicht durchzusetzen – im europäischen Durchschnitt gelingt dies nur in etwa einem Drittel der Fälle. Als einer der zentralen Gründe hierfür wird die mangelnde Kooperationsbereitschaft der Herkunftsländer genannt. Auf europäischer Ebene finden derzeit dynamische Entwicklungen in der internen und externen Dimension statt, was die Frage der Rückkehr be­trifft. Ziel ist es, die Zusammenarbeit mit Herkunftsländern zu verbessern sowie innereuropäische Abläufe effektiver zu gestalten. Die fortwährenden Bemühungen, die Rückkehrzahlen zu erhöhen, gehen mit entwicklungs-, außen- und sicherheitspolitischen Kosten einher, die oft nicht hinreichend beachtet werden. So kann der Druck zur rückkehrpolitischen Kooperation demokratische Transitionsprozesse in Herkunftsländern gefährden oder europäische Verhandlungsmacht in anderen Bereichen schwächen. Die Studie plädiert dafür, diese Zielkonflikte systematischer als bisher in eine umfassende Kosten-Nutzen-Abwägung von Rückkehrpolitik einzu­beziehen. Auf Basis dieser Abwägung sollten europäische Regierungen pragmatisch über Alternativen zu Rückkehr nachdenken.
